ACRYLIC ON PLEXI GLASS

The paintings are painted on the backside of the plate, and seen through the transparent plexi glass. In contrast to the traditional approach of painting on canvas, these paintings are painted in a reverse fashion. That means I've to plan the different layers to control the foreground and background, shades and contrasts in the picture. I usually build up the painting by thin layers, so it's close to watercolors in technique.

I focus on a coloristic imagery, focusing on texture and motion in contrasts. I want the forms to float, to move, - but at the same time possessing a graphic quality. I think of the images as abstract considerations of objects.  The playfulness in the paintings are underscored by the titles I have selected to the images, often with a humorous twist. They play up under the free association as a pure play with words.

Finally I would like to add this: The plexi glass gives the acrylic colors an extra succulence, and the brush strokes are texture are perceived differently through the 5 mm thick plastic plate. Because of gloss in the glass the total experience of the work is difficult to reproduce photographically correct, and the images should definitely be seen live.
